2023 San Jose Open: A Historic Inaugural Event
The 2023 San Jose Open, the inaugural event hosted by Judo United, made history as the largest first-time Judo event ever held in the United States. With nearly 900 entries, this two-day competition took place at West Valley College, drawing participants from over 80 teams across the country.
As a USA Judo point-level event for both junior and senior athletes, the San Jose Open provided a platform for showcasing some of the brightest up-and-coming talent in the nation. The competition was fierce, with large contingents from Northern California Judo clubs vying for the coveted team championships.
In a special moment during the event, Judo United recognized Southern California legendary coach Ernie Smith with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Smith, who has spent a lifetime training athletes in Barstow, California, has produced countless Junior and Senior National Judo champions over his distinguished career. His…
